🇵🇱 Początki klubu WKS „Gwardia” Warszawa datuje się na rok 1944, kiedy funkcjonował on na bazie KS Grochów, natomiast pod obecną nazwą funkcjonuje od 1948 r. Klub posiadał sekcje boksu, judo, lekkoatletyki, łyżwiarstwa szybkiego, piłki nożnej, strzelectwa sportowego, zapasów i żużla. Gwardia zapisała się w historii warszawskiego i polskiego sportu. Spośród wielu sukcesów można wymienić m.in. złote medale drużynowych mistrzostw Polski w boksie w 1950 i 1976 r., złoty medal drużynowych mistrzostw Polski w łyżwiarstwie szybkim w 1954 r., piłkarskie wicemistrzostwo Polski w 1957 r., trzecie miejsce w najwyższej lidze w 1959 i 1973 r. i finał Pucharu Polski w 1974 r. oraz brązowy i srebrny medal w drużynowych mistrzostwach Polski w zapasach kolejno w 1968 i 1989 r. Tu wychowywali się m.in. Dariusz Dziekanowski, Grażyna Rabsztyn, Ryszard Szymczak, Jerzy Kraska, Władysław Żmuda, Jerzy Kulej, Jerzy Rybicki i Jan Werner. Stadion i budynki klubowe powstały w latach 50. XX w. W 1955 r. przekazano je w użytkowanie warszawskiej Gwardii. Stadion posiadał 9000 miejsc oraz boisko do piłki nożnej i tor żużlowy. Do dyspozycji były również korty tenisowe, baseny z odkrytą skocznią, boiska treningowe oraz hale sportowe. Oprócz zawodów sportowych na przestrzeni lat wystąpili tu m.in. Tina Turner, Carlos Santana i Andrea Bocelli oraz zespoły Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Metallica i Iron Maiden. Do 1971 r. teren był własnością Skarbu Państwa, później został on przekazany Ministerstwu Spraw Wewnętrznych.
🇬🇧 The beginnings of the Warsaw Sport Club "Gwardia" Warsaw date back to 1944, when it operated on the basis of KS Grochów, while under its current name it has been operating since 1948. The club had sections of boxing, judo, athletics, speed skating, football, sport shooting, wrestling and slag. Gwardia went down in the history of Warsaw and Polish sport. Among the many successes, one can mention, among others gold medals in the Polish team boxing championship in 1950 and 1976, gold medal in the Polish team speed skating championship in 1954, the Polish vice-championship in 1957, third place in the highest league in 1959 and 1973 and the final of the Polish Cup in 1974 and bronze and silver medals in the Polish team wrestling championships in 1968 and 1989, respectively. Dariusz Dziekanowski, Grażyna Rabsztyn, Ryszard Szymczak, Jerzy Kraska, Władysław Żmuda, Jerzy Kulej, Jerzy Rybicki and Jan Werner. The stadium and club buildings were built in the 1950s. In 1955, they were handed over to the Warsaw Gwardia. The stadium had 9,000 seats, a football pitch and a speedway track. There were also tennis courts, swimming pools with an open hill, training fields and sports halls. In addition to sports competitions, over the years, among others, Tina Turner, Carlos Santana and Andrea Bocelli and the bands Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Metallica and Iron Maiden. Until 1971, the area was owned by the State Treasury, later it was transferred to the Ministry of the Interior. In 2007, after the expiry of the permanent administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the complex was taken over by the Police Headquarters. In 2012, due to the poor technical condition of the Gwardia's sports facilities, the police ordered them to be closed and secured. For many years there was an unequal battle between the club authorities and Gwardia fans from KGP, the Ministry of Interior and Administration and politicians of various levels to save this part of the history of sports in Warsaw. Unfortunately, to no avail. In 2019, the site was taken over by the Internal Security Agency. So what will be the future of these objects? There is a lot of speculation, but one thing is certain: Gwardia shared the fate of other Warsaw clubs that were deprived of their home sports facilities.
